Our Microgrants Program
raison d’Etre
-
People: Fellows
We support amazing people, with extraordinary potential, but with barriers to access: BIPOC in the environmental space, who can and will lead their communities in driving meaningful climate action.
-
Action: Projects
It all begins with an idea. Combine that with the passion of individuals who want to make a positive and lasting impact for the well-being of our planet, through creative, innovative and solution-oriented projects.
-
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion
But there is more than one solution, because there are many perspectives, of different cultures, races and backgrounds. And we want everyone to have a fair chance at participating in the action. Because we need it.
What is our Microgrants Program?
Our Micro-grants Program seeks to support BIPOC who are leading the charge on climate activities and action in their respective communities across Canada, whether through a non-profit they work for, or their very own enterprise. Our program supports these amazing BIPOC leaders and to-be-leaders by providing them seed funding or a small contribution towards launching and making their climate action projects a reality. Though micro, these grants are mighty, and help challenge and fill significant barriers and gaps to funding.
Beyond becoming a recipient of a micro-grant, our program supports our project leaders by providing them with opportunities for professional support and training, promotion of their projects, and access to the BIPOC Fellowship Network and its programs.
Application Process
We accept applications for our micro-grants in two cycles every year: spring and fall. Applications are done through an online form, and are screened by our Fellows in a collective decision-making process. After the review process, applicants are notified if their projects have been approved and are invited to join our Fellowship.
Our upcoming Call to Proposals for our Spring 2025 round has officially launched as of Monday, February 10th, 2025. The application form closes on Friday, May 2nd, 2025 5pm ET. See below for details & application link:
The BIPOC Fellowship is championing the next generation of Black, Indigenous, and POC leaders in the Canadian environmental non-profit sector. Through our micro-grant program, we provide seed funding of $1,000–$2,000 per recipient to help launch or advance innovative environmental projects that drive meaningful change.
As part of our Spring 2025 funding round, we’re awarding a total of $7,500 in micro-grants to four or five visionary changemakers who are committed to sustainability, climate action, and community empowerment. This initiative is designed to amplify BIPOC leadership, fostering greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in environmental solutions across Canada.
What We Fund
This micro-grant supports small-scale climate action or sustainability projects and events that can be completed within a one-year timeline (Spring 2025 – Spring 2026). Projects can be led independently or through an environmental non-profit organization.
