Celebrating BIPOC leadership
in the sustainability sector.

The BIPOC Fellowship

Our BIPOC Fellowship recognizes, supports and celebrates BIPOC in the environmental sector across Canada. It is an invaluable opportunity for our sector to not only grow in diversity, but to create a sector that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive beyond just talk.  We provide our BIPOC Fellows with various funding, training and promotional opportunities to support their leadership, their projects, and their organizations.

Funds are spent at the discretion of the fellow and can go towards funding for personal professional development, training, projects, events/conferences or their salaries.

During their tenure as fellows, fellows will also participate in quarterly BIPOC roundtables and events which act as spaces where fellows can share and learn about each others’ journeys or a focused topic, attend/participate in panels and speaking opportunities, discuss solutions to challenges they encounter, and provide overall support to one another.

New Year Spotlight:

Congratulations to our very first round of micro-grant recipient fellows!

We are happy to announce that this past fall, through new funding, we were able to award our first round of micro-grants funding. We distributed $12,500 among 7 new fellows across Canada to support their amazing sustainability projects. These fellows are superstars with innovative project ideas of their own initiative that have amazed us. We can’t wait to share more about them with you!

Update: Our Spring 2025 Call to Proposals is now open! See our Microgrants page to apply!

BIPOC Roundtables

Our BIPOC Roundtables are a quarterly online gathering for our nationwide fellows. It is a safe space where experiences, ideas, and opinions are shared. The space is meant to foster open and honest conversations. However, we recognize even as BIPOC, we all have unique experiences and opinions, which highlights that no matter what we must treat each other with respect.

Each roundtable has a theme for its discussions and the provided resources. The theme for the December roundtable is How to amplify your voice as a BIPOC leader and a Let’s talk mental health session. Most roundtables are exclusive to the fellows, but some are open to members of our partnered organizations and the public. If you would like to see what our BIPOC Roundtable is like contact us!

Nasha Choudhury - BIPOC Fellowship Director

“We want our partners to recognize and celebrate the amazing potential and the unique perspectives our BIPOC leaders have to offer. They are a group of people who, so far, have not been represented to the extent they should be in our sector”

Shania Ramharrack - BIPOC Fellowship Intern

“As someone who is new to the sector, it’s inspiring to see that these types of fellowships exist for BIPOC leaders. All of the fellows are so passionate about the work that they do, as their organizations address inequities in field and have positive implications for the environment. That’s the kind of work I want to do in the future. ”

Nelly Leo - BIPOC Fellow

“It's been such an energizing fall/winter period! We're getting such good feedback and people are really showing up as their full selves. The kind of conversations we've been having really reminds us why we do what we do. And I’m thankful to the BIPOC Fellowship for helping support that. ”
